We scan all motion picture film, for features and commercials, using ARRISCAN technology. ARRISCAN is a pin-registered film scanner, capable of doing the kind of precision work required for the exacting specs of multi-layering techniques used in many visual effects shots. Capable of scanning film at resolutions of up to 6K, the ARRISCAN actually oversamples the information on the negative and then uses its proprietary technology to build a scan with even greater detail than would be possible with a machine simply scanning film material at the output resolution. All negative that comes through Company 3 is scanned in this way, rather than going through a telecine process, in order to bring every bit of picture information possible to the colorists' suites. Even material colored and mastered to an HD format, is still scanned at 2K for this purpose. For re-mastering work on imperfectly preserved negative, the ARRISCAN's pin registration mechanism can be turned off.
